2learn® has evolved its definition of critical thinking as its understanding of it has grown. For some time 2learn® has been defining critical thinking as, “the gateway to the infinite realm of knowledge”. However, critical thinking isn’t just opening the student’s mind to the infinite bounds of knowledge, its also about how the student uses thought and applies it to the problem at hand. So, 2learn®’s definition for critical thinking is now, “navigating the infinite realm of knowledge to arrive to a good solution to any problem.”

In order to instill 2learn®’s definition in the student, you should proceed clause by clause. The logical first step is opening the student’s mind to the infinite realm of knowledge because without that mentality, the student might pull ideas from the wrong source. First, help the student identify the infinite realm of knowledge by using the guidance stated in The Infinite Realm of Knowledge VisualizedThe View, and No Graduation. Second, help the student reach the infinite realm of knowledge by developing the following skills – Absorbing New InformationCreativity, Creativity in the Moment, Inductive Reasoning, Insightful QuestionsThinking “Outside of the Box”, and Solving the Problem in Different Ways.

Next, the student needs to filter her ideas by using the following tools in accordance with what best fits her circumstance – Assumptions, Avoidance, Bias, Confirmation Bias, Cross-Disciplinary Problem-Solving, Deductive Reasoning, Diversification of Labor, Evidence, I ForgotLogic and Reason, Mixing, Organize, Probability, Rules, The Lack Thereof, and The Scientific Method.

Then, the student needs to select an answer or answers. The methodology for doing so is detailed in Answer.
